An Eastleigh Scene - 12 May 2021

The railway scene at Eastleigh is in almost constant flux and the scenes presented to the photographer often change. Stuck on the outside the photographer in 2021 must accommodate the recently erected fence (recently in Eastleigh history). This little cameo features Arlington Fleet Services' Class 08 shunter 08567, still in EWS colours and Colas Class 37 37099.

Locomotives are regularly stabled at Eastleigh, a location which sets an example by actively welcoming enthusiasts. This policy makes photography relatively easy and attractive.

In a typical scene, GBRf Class 73 73213 'Rhodalyn' is seen with Class 66 locomotives of two companies, Colas Rail 66849 and GBRf's First liveried 66726 'Sheffield Wednesday'.

A grey but mild day drew me away from the table and armchair to Eastleigh where there was far less stabled (or in the open at the Works) than I had expected.

The small number of locomotives present included Colas Rail Class 66 66849 'Wylam Dilly'.

It is always interesting to see what is stabled at Eastleigh at the weekend and invariably be able to add to the document of Class 66.

On this occasion the group at the north end of the station consisted of GBRf 66757 and 66740 'Sarah' with Colas Rail Class 60 60056 and (hidden) GBRf 66738.

When an apparent obstacle can not easily be excluded from a picture, I sometimes find it worth including so, here, the rubble sacks help to depict the Eastleigh of today.

Colas Rail Class 47 47739 'Robin of Templecombe 1938-2013' is named after Robin Gould, a former Westbury man, who worked for 55 years on the railways.
