Stubbington Bypass Construction (2) - 7 March 2021

There are fewer opportunities these days to follow construction projects as I did in the past so today's two photographs are simply a snapshot from roughly the midpoint (in time) of the building of the Stubbington Bypass. This is where the new alignment diverges from that of the present day Gosport Road.

The project was delayed first by planning difficulties and then, of course, by the pandemic. The wider project will also see changes around the Titchfield gyratory.

I no longer have the time or the particular inclination to document local construction projects in the meticulous detail I used to but I think it is important to get some kind of record of developments.

The Alver Valley Country Park Western Gateway received an extension to its popular car park during 2019. Towards the end of that year construction began on the long awaited café and toilets and the building is seen here about half way to completion.

Progress on this Lee on Solent sign which I first recorded on 11 August 2019 has, frankly, been slow. It was rendered in the last couple of days so that I could take this photograph more than one month after the last. There is still plenty of development going on around Daedalus.

The construction of Interconnector (IFA2) on a site to the north of Solent Airport on land formerly part of RNAS Daedalus is a large project which I have had neither the time nor the motivation to follow in detail as I have with some previous, local projects. However, I do plan to post occasional pictures as work progresses. This is a view from Gosport Road. A great deal of work is being done in the area to create public space and some of the associated landscaping can be seen between the fences and the construction site.

The construction of Newgate Lane East, along the fence line in the background, has necessitated the provision of a link road to maintain access to the present Newgate Lane, from which this picture was taken. The designation B3385 will be transferred to the new road.

It is now known that the new road bypassing the existing Newgate Lane in Fareham will adopt the designation of the current road, B3385, and be named Newgate Lane East. This one of four views looking north from the Peel Common roundabout taken shortly before the planned opening.
