I've been sitting on this video ever since I made it two years ago. I always intended to release it, though, since I like Germany and I love German trains. I've never done a German railway video this long before, either. I hope you all enjoy it.

One other thing I just barely managed to do while getting out of Neustadt was to buy some Neustadt beer. Neustadt is the smallest licensed brewery in Germany, supposedly, and Neustadt is one of the only, perhaps the only, place where you can find it.

This was one of the last shots that I took on this Dresden trip, and I like to think it's one of the best. It was especially hard to get since I was shooting into the sun with black and white film (Ilford FP4 125 ISO), and had to get the exposure exactly right. I've done better, but I like this one.

When I first saw the name Verdun, I assumed I was looking at a World War I memorial, but in fact, this was the earlier battle of Verdun from the Franco-Prussian War.

The previous shot was actually of the rear of the church. This is actually the front of it, at least as seen from the street. The church is behind a large park at the far outer border of Neustadt (from the looks of it).

Finally, in a last-ditch effort at the end of the day, I made one last attempt at finding the tower in Neustadt. Instead, I found this church, and I ended up being late, as I said earlier. This church does not appear to be very old, but it was interesting for its war memorial plaques, if nothing else, that primarily were for the imperial conflicts, most of them typically stupid, of the 1860's and 1870's, including the Franco-Prussian War.

As you can see, for this shot I tried to compose the Frauenkirche with one of the statues in the Altmarkt, which I don't think I had tried before.

I see this large, articulated freight (auto-carrier?) tram nearly every time I visit Dresden, but I rarely get a good photo of it. This one's a compromise, being a crop. The tram appears to work for Volkswagen, moving new cars around.

Apparently using older buses for city tours isn't something unique to Britain. In addition to this Mercedes, there was also a 40-50-year old MAN in service.

Here's a black and white film version of my earlier cameraphone shot (if you've seen it). I thought that given the white-to-grey-to-silver coloring of Centrum Galerie, this would come out reasonably well. I guess it's up to you to judge.

Getting back to Pragerstrasse, where I met my friends for lunch, this is another example of a Communist European building (if I'm not mistaken), that resembles something from the Middle East, possibly Iran (if that counts). However, Germany is definitely not Iran. :-) Centrum Galerie is now an urban shopping center, but I'm not aware of what it was previously. An art gallery, perhaps?

If you're looking for a genuine Trabant 601 still in running order, it's far easier to find them in the Czech Republic and Slovakia than in the former East Germany, where they were actually built. However, they do still appear from time to time. I found this one, still in close to original condition (at least on the outside, although I don't know if the fog lights are original) parked next to some much newer, much more expensive, much less charming cars (whatever you think of the Communists).

This may be out of chronological order with the Hbf shot, as it doesn't really make sense where this is on my list. In any case, this is the tram stop for the largest Synagogue in Dresden, seen on the right. It's actually a very well-equipped Synagogue, with sports facilities and so on, as well as this dedicated tram stop. The building isn't what it seems the first few times you look at it, as it has many interesting features hiding in plain view. For example, one portion of it (not visible here) is "twisted," in a not-so-obvious way, and it renaissance-style brickwork that you see here looks different depending on how close you are or what angle you're looking at it from. Needless to say, it doesn't look so Renaissance from every angle, as this is a thoroughly modern building. I didn't take this photo for the Synagogue, though. I just saw a tram coming, and took a couple of shots of the tram.

The primary border between Altmarkt and Neustadt is the River Elbe, which actually flows from the Krkonose mountains in the Czech Republic. In the Czech Republic, it's known as the Labe. In any case, it gives you a clear enough view to get nice photos of the Altmarkt from the Neustadt side, and vice versa.
