Zu den wertvollsten Kunstwerken in der St. Moritz Kirche in Augsburg zählen die Skulpturen von Georg Petel, der zur Zeit des Dreißigjährigen Krieges in Augsburg als frei schaffender Bildhauer tätig war und als „Michelangelo des Frühbarock“ bezeichnet wurde.
Er schuf um 1629/30 die Figuren des Hl. Sebastian und des Hl. Christophorus, die an den Westwänden der Seitenschiffe zu sehen sind. (PiP 1 u. 2, klickbar) Als letzte Figur kam der Christus Salvator, an der der Künstler seit 1630 arbeitete, nach Petels frühem Tod im Jahr 1634, in die Moritzkirche. Heute hat sie ihren Platz in der lichtdurchfluteten Apsis. (PiP 3, klickbar) Diese Skulptur zeigt den wiederkehrenden Christus, eine für die damalige Zeit, die von den Grauen des Dreißigjährigen Krieges geprägt war, äußerst ungewöhnliche Darstellung. Noch heute beeindruckt sie durch ihre kraftvolle Ausstrahlung.

➽ Christus Salvator
Among the most valuable art works in St. Maurice church in Augsburg are the sculptures of Georg Petel, who worked as a freelance sculptor at the time of the Thirty Years' War in Augsburg and was called "Michelangelo of the early Baroque".
He created around 1629/30 the figures of St. Sebastian and St. Christopher, which can be seen on the western walls of the side aisles. (PiP 1 and 2, clickable) The Christ the Saviour, on which the artist worked since 1630, according to Petel early death in 1634, came as the last figure into the Church of St. Maurice. Today it has its place in the light-flooded apse (PiP 3, clickable). This sculpture shows the returning Christ, one for its time, which was marked by the horrors of the Thirty Years' War, most unusual presentation. Even today, it impresses with its powerful charisma.

St. Moritz, one of the oldest churches in Augsburg, was redesigned from 2009 and shines completely white since 2013. More Photos and information here: ➽ St. Maurice church

➽ Die Skulptur "Ostern" des Künstlerehepaares Matschinsky-Denninghoff besteht aus Chromnickelstahl-Röhren und symbolisiert den auferstandenen Jesus mit erhobenen Armen vor dem Grabhügel. ➽ Siehe auch PiP (anklickbar)
Als die Skulptur 1990 errichtet wurde, konnten viele mit dem Namen Ostern nichts anfangen. Ein paar Witzbolde stellten einen Wäschetrockner samt Abluftschlauch daneben und brachten ein Schild mit der Aufschrift "Pfingsten" daran an!

When the sculpture was erected in 1990, many didn't understand what the name Easter meant. A few wags put a tumble dryer and exhaust hose next to it and put a sign on it saying "Pentecost"!

➽ A collection of blown eggs which I've painted for my mum almost 40 years ago, she saved them over the long time and after she died I've got them back. Also the tablecloth was embroidered by myself!
