Part of this describes how difficult war-time conditions were, for the crew down here, keeping the power on and the ship moving when under attack. Not surprising that so few got out from down here when their ship was sinking ...

Another view of the starboard side of the engine room, showing the deck boards covering the repainted bilges. The repaint off the engine shows up well in this image. The sound-proofing on bulkhead to the cabin is at the top, and the green fuel tank is to the right hand side.

The engine space. Tthis seems rather large as the fuel tanks have been removed for inspection. This has allowed the hull behind to be painted.
Excuse the loose electrical knitting - it wil be tidied away shortly....
