Speeding through Lancaster Castle on the Down Fast Line LNER A2 pacific 63532 Blue Peter heads 1Z32 the 07.00 London Euston to Carlisle mainline special The Cumbrian Mountaineer. Steam took over the train from Crewe and was running 1 minute early.

Sintra west of Lisbon is a fairy-tale place with palaces, castles and a mountain park. Well worth a visit. We were living in Cascais and on this day were walking to the south of Sintra when this wall poster caught my attention. It shows the National Palace of Pena on its mountaintop.

A grey rainy winter Sunday in Lugano. Almost deserted but still a beautiful town. The mountains in the distance are impressive but disappear into the clouds.

We had taken the train from Como for the day.

The sun has shone (a bit) recently so we went for a walk around the Botanic Gardens - part of Leicester University. The crocus display is out but with the lousy weather of the last month it has been a bit subdued... A beautiful location though.

Avanti West Coast electric unit 390127 runs into Rugby platform 4 with a southbound passenger service.

The brick buildings on the left date from the 1885 rebuild when the station had 6 platforms. The splendid Victorian iron & glass roof was sadly demolished in the last rebuild & replaced by these rusting tubular things. The station still has 6 platforms but only one is a bay. New platforms 1 and 5/6 are on the Down and Up sides respectively of the original island.

Halsway manor was held in 1086 by Roger de Courcelles with Alric, the owner in 1066, as his tenant. The manor passed through many owners down to 1960, (mentioned in the Doomsday Book)

Now It is the only residential folk centre in the UK. This week it hosts The 5th Big Hurdy-Gurdy event!

Another raid on the archives for a bench or two, This time we are at the Jurassic Coastal town of Seaton, The town looks out across Lyme Bay, East Devon, and the sea front forms a part of the South West Coastal Path!

The Cobb, Lyme Regis Dorset, England,The lady with the mobile phone gives the images age away!

The top Layer where the majority of the ladies are stood slopes quite steeply to the sea and is quite a sensation when waves are rolling in across Lyme Bay and breaking against the wall,

The first sea defense here was in It was in 1538 it has been destroyed by the sea on a number of occasions but the present sturdy Cobb was reconstructed in 1820 using Portland Stone!
