Die Menge des Gletscherwassers aus dem Rosenlaui-Gletscher (Bildmitte) beträgt je nach Jahreszeit zwischen 1'000 bis 15'000 Liter pro Sekunde. Aktuell (Juli 2025) sind es um die 13'000 Liter pro Sekunde.

Der Giessengletscher

Der Giessengletscher ist einer von mehreren Gletschern an der Nordwestflanke der Jungfrau (4'158 m).
Er beginnt am Nordhang der Jungfrau auf einer Höhe von etwas über 3'600 m und fliesst nach Nordwesten. Die Gletscherzunge liegt auf 2'500 m.
Westlich angrenzend befindet sich der kleinere Silberhorngletscher. Östlich ist er hinter dem Schneehoren über den Chielouwenengletscher mit dem Guggigletscher verbunden.
Das Schmelzwasser des Giessengletschers fliesst in die Weisse Lütschine, dann in die Lütschine, in die Aare und schliesslich in den Rhein.

Finsteraarhorn (4'274 m) und Oberes Ischmeer (Gletscher)

Das Finsteraarhorn ist der höchste Gipfel der Berner Alpen. Weiter ist es der höchste Punkt im Einzugsgebiet des Rheins. Es liegt auf der Grenze der Kantone Bern und Wallis, im Zentrum der Berner Alpen. Das Finsteraarhorn liegt weit ab von Besiedlung und Verkehrswegen, wird in allen Richtungen von Gletschern und hohen Bergen umgeben und ist daher schwer erreichbar und einsehbar.

From here one has numerous possibilities to do a glacier hike.

"Diavolezza" means "she-devil" in the Rhaeto-Romanic language. The name comes from a legend:
Many years ago a wonderful mountain fairy lived at Munt Pers ("lost mountain", Rhaeto-Romanic). She was seldom seen by hunters and was often admired when she crossed the slopes of the Munt Pers to "Lej da la Diavolezza" (Lake of the She-devil) to take a bath. Then the young hunters became careless. They followed her over the rocks to her castle. But one hunter after the other disappeared. And so it happened to Aratsch, a young man from the village. Everywhere they looked for him in vain and finally they assumed he had fallen into a crevasse or crashed down. For those who were in the region at nightfall, carried by the wind, heard the plaintive voice of Diavolezza calling out: "Mort ais Aratsch!" (Aratsch is dead). Hence the name of the Alp Morteratsch in the basin of the Bernina group.
