From Beacon Hill in Griffith Park, looking towards the area that would have been the location of the LA Grand Central Air Terminal, the first LA airport. The area that was the airport is indicated on the photo; Dreamworks is in the lower portion of the noted section.

Beacon Hill in Griffith Park. Though this doesn't look particularly interesting, it is of historic significance. When the original LA airport (LA Grand Central Air Terminal) was between LA and Glendale in the 20's and 30's, there was a beacon on this hill to remind pilots of the nearby hills.

I've always found this view of Mt. Hollywood Dr. in the late afternoon to be particularly attractive, and reminiscent of paintings of Italian countryside. Unfortunately, I've never found a good way to photograph it. Taken on Inauguration day, 2009.

These ladder/stairs go from the trail up to the base of an electrical tower of the LADWP. I was surprised to see them readily accessible with no signs to stay off. I have been unable to find the age of the power line towers through Griffith Park, but a rough guess would be that they were built in the 40's.

Scattered throughout the park are abandoned structures like these that were once used to channel runoff. I'm always surprised at the extent that components of the park look simply abandoned. Part of the indication of the publics unwillingness to support public works.

Former LA City Zoo. This zoo closed in 1965, with the new zoo opening just a short distance away, still in Griffith Park. Much of the structure of the old zoo was built with the assistance of the WPA (Workers Progress Administration). This cage was in a back area and thus would have not been used for animals that were on display.

Rainbow over the San Gabriel Mountains, visbile from Griffith Park Observatory. The hills closest in view are in Griffith Park, the mountains in the distance are the San Gabriels. In the middle of picture, to the right of the rainbow, are the antennas on Mt. Wilson.
