We Three Sea Kings (1) - 26 September 2018

The last flight in service with the Royal Navy of the Westland Sea King Mk7 ended with the arrival of three of the type at HMS Sultan in Gosport, Hampshire. It was a beautiful day and a couple of flypasts at around 1252L made a very moving sight.

The evening sun fell across the sports fields at HMS Sultan as preparations continued for the 2015 Summer Show (20 & 21 June). The helicopter exhibits are fairly predictable but I thought it worthwhile to try to take some fresh shots.

This is retired RAF Aerospatiale Gazelle XZ930.

This is Royal Navy Westland Lynx ZD254/305. When I last photographed this machine at the same location, it carried the number 306.

The Monday after the HMS Sultan Summer Show saw the restoration of the playing fields under way. The Royal Navy helicopter exhibits were still present and included Lynx ZD254, Sea King XV703 and Wessex XT453 which is mounted for winching demonstrations and was previously photographed at nearby HMS Collingwood.
