Victrix was carved from a diseased Chestnut tree [actually in Heddon-on-the-Wall].
This is the "interpretation panel" - I need to re-take him, as I had a bad dose of camera shake !
He's just outside a nice little cafe, only a short detour from Hadrian's Wall trail.

Probably natural, as the local sandstone does cleave like this. On the other hand, this area has had plenty of Roman military, civilian farming and early industrial influences on the landscape.

One of two images showing a large but derelict building close to Barron House [farm] near Gilsland, Cumbria. Another photographer thinks these are abandoned / old mine buildings. However, although there are coal measures here, I'm not totally convinced. Primarily because there are no visible waste tips, even from sinking an adit {horizontal shaft}. However, it is located where a small stream opens out onto the flat area in the foreground. I would like, sometime, to take a closer look ! [taken from a passing train].

Mosaic at Haltwhistle Railway Station - one of the access points to "Hadrian's Wall Country" as represented to visiting tourists.
{sometimes, the emphasis on the Romans seems overwhelming to me, the area has history from other periods !}

[if you are interested in this era, the "Last Kingdom" {Utred} series by Bernard Cornwell are a good, if fictionalised, description of the period.

The iron "Blue Bridge" across the River South Tyne in Haltwhistle was pedestrianised in 1972, but was once a major crossing point. Originally built in 1875, it received a major overhaul in 2003.
The river is in high winter flow, almost spate conditions.

Low- lying patch of ground, near to the confluence of the Haltwhistle Burn & the River South Tyne and not far from the old football fields, has filled up with water. It does not appear directly connected to the water courses. tbh, it looks like a toy boating lake ! {I might take some tools & investigate}

A closer view of the fourth Hexham Bridge over the River Tyne. It was completed in 1793, as the three previous attempts from the first in 1767 - at or near this point - had all been swept away by floodwaters. The cutwater appears to have accumulated some debris during recent winter storms.

This is the point at which the Haltwhistle Burn kinks sharply to the left [downstream]. There is one of the several steps in the bed here, whether that is because of a build up of larger pebbles, or some other reason, I don't know.
It is an area under active bank erosion - watch where you walk on the turf - a lot of the edge is un-supported, and it's quite a drop into the water.
{there should be an in spate image somewhere !}

Remains of the painted "Spotted Cow" sign on the former public house / inn, taken only a few days before it was covered over.
The "all of it" was so out of focus that I deleted it ! Wasn't easy to frame, either.
