This farm building at the Hohenlohe Freilandmuseum Schwäbisch Hall at Wackershofen is almost 500 years old. The ground floor was used to keep animals while the family lived above on the first floor. It was from Zaisenhausen in the Hohenlohe-Franken region north of Schwäbisch Hall until it was dismanțled to be brought to the museum.

The Wimple Estate near Royston has been lived on and farmed for over 2,000 years. The hall dates from 1640 with major rebuilds and additions in the 18th century.

It passed through several hands over the years (sometimes as forced sales due to debts) but its last owner from 1938 was the daughter of Rudyard Kipling and at her death in 1976 she left the Hall and estate to the care of the National Trust.

Another shot of the Elizabethan Kirby Hall built in 1570. Even though it can look in pretty good shape from some angles it is clearly a roofless ruin from this one!

English Heritage are the custodians of the semi-ruined Elizabethan Kirby Hall near Corby although the building and gardens are still owned by the Earl of Winchilsea. Built as an Elizabethan country house in 1570 it was bandoned in the 1880s the house is now in a semi-ruined state.

Wiki tells us:-
One of the great Elizabethan houses of England, Kirby Hall was built for Sir Humphrey Stafford of Blatherwick. In 1575, Sir Christopher Hatton of Holdenby purchased the property, Hatton was Lord Chancellor to Queen Elizabeth I. It is a leading and early example of the Elizabethan prodigy house.

Built as an Elizabethan country house in 1570, based on the designs in French architectural pattern books it was expanded in the Classical style over the course of the following decades. Abandoned in the 1880s the house is now in a semi-ruined state with many parts roof-less although the Great Hall and state rooms remain intact. The gardens, with their elaborate "cutwork" design, complete with statues and urns, have been recently restored.

The action is all over and we are disposing our engine on the Sunday evening after another very successful Gala. Great Western Railway Hall 4-6-0 4953 Pitchford Hall quietly simmers on Loughborough shed. My driver, the late Don Palmer, is checking round before I drop the ashpan.

Great Western Hall 4-6-0 4965 Rood Ashton Hall hauling Vintage Trains' "The City of York" special from Tyseley to York approaches, at speed, the Whetstone foot crossing between Blaby & Enderby, south of Leicester.

4965 was thought to be 4983 Albert Hall when it was first saved from Woodhams scrapyard in Barry South Wales. However during restoration it was discovered that Swindon had actually switched frames in 1962 so it reverted to its true identity again.

A reworked & re-cropped version of an earlier post.

Ivatt 4MT 2-6-0 43106 darkens the skies over Lancashire while filling its tender from the archaic looking water column. Her blower is hard on to lift the smoke & get up steam ready to depart the shed for the Severn Valley Railway at Bridgnorth and a new life in preservation.

Stanier 8F Class No 48476 had its day of fame on 4th August double-heading 1L50, the RCTS 'End of Steam' tour with Standard 5 73069.
