Palm Cove ist ein kleiner relaxter Ort 27 km nördlich von Cairns. Der Pier wurde ursprünglich gebaut, um den Urlaubern dort die Möglichkeit zu bieten, Ausflüge zum Great Barrier Reef direkt vor Ort machen zu können und nicht erst nach Cairns oder Port Douglas fahren zu müssen. Wegen des meist starken Wellengangs entpuppte sich der Bootsanleger allerdings als unbrauchbar, und so nutzen ihn die Einheimischen hauptsächlich zum Angeln. Links am Horizont zu sehen ist Double Island, die kleine Insel ungefähr in der Bildmitte ist Haycock Island.

Palm Cove is a small and relaxed town about 27 km north of Cairns. The jetty was originally built for boat trips to the Great Barrier Reef so that the tourists needn't go to Cairns or Port Douglas for that. But due to the mostly strong currents the jetty was pronounced unfit for use, and so the locals mainly use it for fishing today. On the left you can see Double Island, and the very small island in the middle is Haycock Island. HFF :-)
