Legend has it that the town derives its name from a small wooden statue of the Virgin Mary brought from Nazareth in the Holy Land to Spain, and then to Portugal in 711 by a monk, Romano, accompanied by Roderic, the last Visigoth king.<br /> <br /> HWW to everyone.
