Not far from Halifax Minster, architecture of a different nature. The complex Victorian steelwork of the 1855 ex-Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway station roof is seen from the top of the stairs down to platforms 1 & 2.

Grand Central Trains Class 180 Adelante diesel multiple unit departs from Mirfield station with 1A59 the 06.53 Bradford Exchange to London Kings Cross, passing probably the only Victorian remnant of this once impressive Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway station.

Today Mirfield is unstaffed and has no ticketing facilities of any kind. This typical LYR wrought iron fencing (HFF!) is a remnant of the 1886 station which was centred on the large island platform and when built it had an overall roof with facilities included a hotel, buffet and billiard room!

The sun shines on Halifax's ex-Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway station & its remaining island platform dating from 1886 while the industrial scenery beyond stands in the gathering cloud.
