The "Pencil" built in 1912, commemorates the Battle of Largs in 1263, which was pivotal in Scotland regaining the control of the western seaboard & islands from Norwegian control. The exact site of the battle was probably just to the south of the present-day settlement.

CAS in a very happy mood at the "International Dinner" - part of the Scottish Esperanto Association's 100th Congress. At the Priory House Hotel in Largs.
