It is I understand a type of limestone from a local quarry, (Goldcraigs freestone quarry) &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Founded in the late 1100s it was the home of Tironensian Benedictine  monks, who lived here for around 400 years, the majority of monks would have come from the Mother House of Kelso Abbey.&lt;br /&gt;
