I missed the departure of the 1300 steam train by just a couple of minutes but was very pleased by the arrival very soon thereafter of this Birmingham R&CW Class 104 dmu, driving motor brake M50454 (nearer camera) + driving motor composite M50528. It appeared to be engaged on driver training duties. The cloud of smoke marked a lively start to its return journey and evoked a few memories too.

I missed the departure of the 1300 steam train by just a couple of minutes but was very pleased by the arrival very soon thereafter of a Birmingham R&CW Class 104 dmu, driving motor brake M50454 (in shot) + driving motor composite M50528. It appeared to be engaged on driver training duties and is seen here preparing for departure.

Heritage railways go a long way to allowing us to imagine or relive what lines and stations were like many years ago. Inevitably there are details in backgrounds or even foregrounds which betray the date of a photograph. Sepia can lend some timelessness to a picture and is used here partially to disguise a disappointing cone on the platform. Nevertheless, it does not take much to be transported back in time.
