Mortar Tower - 10 July 2014

With apologies to all the military history enthusiasts who have just arrived at this page after searching 'mortar tower', I must say I like this picture from Cherque Farm's Magister Square site in Lee on Solent. When the construction of the houses is forgotten by their occupants, this tower will be serving elsewhere. Such is the value of record shots.

On my return from a shopping trip, I was excited to see a UAV being prepared for operation near my home. I assumed that it was going to be used to photograph the Magister Square (Cherque Farm) development in Lee on Solent. The operators were very friendly and I am grateful to then for allowing me to learn more about UAVs.

In this shot, the UAV has landed after a short series of flights and is being dismantled by the operator for onward transport. The vehicle mounted camera is a Canon EOS550D.

On my return from a shopping trip, I was excited to see a UAV being prepared for operation near my home. I assumed that it was going to be used to photograph the Magister Square (Cherque Farm) development in Lee on Solent. The operators were very friendly and I am grateful to then for allowing me to learn more about UAVs.

This is the second of two views seen on the monitor used by the camera operator and one I would have so liked to take myself. The vehicle mounted camera is a Canon EOS550D.

I am very pleased with this shot as I was working under pressure with a compact and did not want to get in the way.The vehicle mounted camera is a Canon EOS550D.

One man is the UAV pilot and his colleague has a control box for the vehicle mounted camera and a monitor which would normally be on a tripod. The camera is a Canon EOS550D. In this view, a sighting shot is taken before the vehicle is launched.

In this view, they are setting up. The man on the right is the UAV pilot and is holding the control box. His colleague, standing, has a similar control box for the vehicle mounted camera and a monitor which would normally be on a tripod. The camera is a Canon EOS550D.

A return to work at the Magister Square development in Lee on Solent's Cherque Farm, saw some hasty painting of the sections of the perimeter fence previously left bare but no attempts to rectify the structural damage from recent storms. This was, perhaps, pragmatic as more severe weather was forecast. This photograph is part of an established Flickr set which pre-dates my use of ipernity but I thought the shot on a temporarily sunny January morning made a good candid in its own right.
