Saturday 11 March 2017 (0956) – Stagecoach 50233 (CN61 FAA), a Van Hool TD927 Astromega new in February 2012, seen in Buckingham Palace Road, London heading towards Victoria Coach Station. It may have been the 0620 Megabus service M7 from Cardiff which was scheduled to arrive in London at 1010.

Freestones Coaches YT62 HZX, an Irizar bodied Scania K360 new in November 2012, loading on bay 17 as the 0930 Megabus service M16 to Norwich UEA (1215) and Norwich (1230). (This service would pass near my home around 1115). On the right is Stagecoach 50292 (YJ66 FFT), a Van Hool TDX27 Astromega new in September 2016, working the 0930 Megabus service M11 to Aberdeen (2220) via Manchester (1405), Preston (1515), Glasgow (1840), Perth (Broxden) (2020) and Dundee (2055).

Saturday 11 March 2017 (0919) – Victoria Coach Station, London. This view was taken from the adjacent multi-storey car park. On the left is Stagecoach 54203 (SF62 CMZ), a Plaxton Elite bodied Volvo B11RT new in December 2012, working the 0930 Megabus service M20 to Glasgow (2000) via Sheffield (Meadowhall) (1300), Leeds (1345), Newcastle-upon-Tyne (1555) and Edinburgh (1850). The other Megabus liveried coach is Freestones Coaches YT62 HZX, an Irizar bodied Scania K360 new in November 2012, loading on bay 17 as the 0930 service M16 to Norwich UEA (1215) and Norwich (1230). (This service would pass near my home around 1115). The National Express liveried coach in bay 19 was operated by Mike deCourcey Travel and would work the 1000 service 420 to Coventry (1235) and Birmingham (1315).

Saturday 11 March 2017 (1118) – Freestones Coaches based in Beetley near East Dereham, Norfolk is a contracted operator to Megabus for service M16 between Norwich and London. YN14 FVR is an Irizar bodied Scania that was new in August 2014. I have read that it was initially loaned to Stagecoach Midland Red on a 12 month demonstration contract and was used on their Megabus services. It was seen during layover in Buckingham Palace Road near Victoria Coach Station after working the 0700 service from Norwich (due VCS at 1020). It would return as the 1300 service. I regularly see this coach as it travels along the A11 close near my home.

Saturday 11 March 2017 (0910) – Stagecoach Western 50250 (SV62 BFF), a Van Hool TDX27 Astromega new in September 2012, had worked an overnight run down from Scotland and was seen in the arrivals terminal of Victoria Coach Station. Note the baggage trailer. The arrivals terminal is separate from the main coach station itself and is accessed from Eccleston Place (at right out of shot). They leave by the exit to Elizabeth Street (to the right of the camera). The property was once the operational garage of Samuelson New Transport Limited - still referred to as ‘Sammy’s’. There is a small workshop area to handle those unforeseen mechanical problems part of which can be seen on the left where a Caetano Levante was receiving attention. (Might be Edwards Coaches FJ11 GKY)

It had worked an overnight run down from Scotland. The arrivals terminal is separate from the main coach station itself and is located along the back of the retail premises and offices of Mountbarrow House. Coaches enter from Eccleston Place and exit to Elizabeth Street. The property was once the operational garage of Samuelson New Transport Limited - still referred to as ‘Sammy’s’.

Saturday 11 March 2017 (0952) – Stagecoach Western 50250 (SV62 BFF), a Van Hool TDX27 Astromega new in September 2012, was easing its way along Buckingham Palace Road heading towards the entrance to Victoria Coach Station. It had worked an overnight run down from Scotland (arriving around 0730) and might have been the coach that went on to work the 1030 service M21 to Glasgow. The buildings in the background are part of the Victoria Coach Station property. The art deco section on the right of the gap was part of the original property built in 1932. The building to the left of the gap was a mid 1960s addition. When the coach station first opened on 10 March 1932 the coach entrance was alongside the curved art-deco building.

Saturday 11 March 2017 (1004) – Stagecoach 50223 (OU59 AUW) swinging into Buckingham Palace Road from Semley Place having just left Victoria Coach Station as the 1000 Megabus service M10 to Bristol (1250) calling at the University of the West of England near Filton (1230). A rather impatient driver who was blaring his horn constantly at a Dutch coach that had just passed by where I was stood.

At the kerb was Stagecoach Midland Red South 54280 (YX66 WNM), a Plaxton Elite i Interdeck bodied Volvo B11RT new in October 2016, on layover. On the right is Stagecoach 50223 (OU59 AUW), a Van Hool TD927 Astromega new in September 2009, when had just departed from nearby Victoria Coach Station as the 1000 Megabus service M10 to Bristol (1250) calling at the University of the West of England near Filton (1230).

Saturday 11 March 2017 (1001) – The grandiose (older) building forming the backcloth to this photograph was opened in 1939 as the Empire Terminal (city air terminal) of Imperial Airways, Imperial became part of BOAC not long after. Saturday 11 March 2017 (1000) – Stagecoach 54219 (YX63 NHF), a Plaxton Elite i Interdeck bodied Volvo B11RT new in November 2013. Note the ‘Flixbus’ vinyl on the side. It was pulling in to the arrivals terminal of Victoria Coach Station in Eccleston Place which was once the operational garage of Samuelson New Transport Limited - still referred to as ‘Sammy’s’. Unfortunately the destination display wasn’t caught by the camera it read ‘Sammy’s Lane 2’ if I recall correctly.

Saturday 11 March 2017 – Megabus Gold Sleeper Coach 50312 (YJ64 AUP), a Van Hool TDX29 Astromega operated by Stagecoach Western, was on display at the 85th anniversary event at Victoria Coach Station, London.

The coach is employed on overnight Glasgow-London service which completes the journey around 8 hours (From Glasgow 2330 arriving London 0720/from London 2300 arriving Glasgow 0700).

The lower deck was configured with passenger seating arranged round tables whilst the upper deck was configured with sleeping accommodation. The idea is that the coach operates fully configured with sleeping accommodation for the overnight runs and be configured with seating on both decks for use on day services.

(Unfortunately the dozen or so vehicles in the anniversary display so tightly parked this was the best exterior photograph I could get).
