This simple but important memorial stone stands in the grounds of the Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum and looked, I think, particularly striking in the January snow.

"Bei Muenchens 800-Jahrfeier denken die Freunde des Automobils and den Pionier der Kraftfahrzeugtechnik, Carl Benz, und an seine Verbundenheit mit Muenchen - 12 Sept 1958"

I have used my own working knowledge of German to translate the inscription thus:

"On the occasion of the 800th anniversary of Munich's founding, motor car enthusiasts remember Carl Benz, the pioneer of powered vehicle technology and his association with Munich - 12 September 1958".

A moment that had to be captured in the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich. As I moved between rooms a guardian paused in a doorway seemingly under the gaze of one of the characters in the rather unsettling work of Jonathan Meese. 'Die Irrfahrten des Meese' occupies an entire room at the gallery.

Amongst my pictures you will find aircraft, trains, animals, buildings, blah, blah, blah; and then there will be the occasional classic Land Rover, carrying a mirror ball and advertising sparkling wine. Obviously. The cab could reasonably be described as 'drafty' especially as snow still lay on the ground.

Seen outside and, I imagine, associated with Café VON & ZU, Luisenstraße 22, Munich.

Das Futuro-Haus (1968), architekt Matti Suuronen.

When I encountered the Futuro Haus, I imagined it was the only one then my research (link below) enlightened me further. This example stands outside the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich and is open on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

In this view, it is interesting to contrast the 1960s vision of a Finnish architect with the reality of a similar period represented by the university building in the background.

At approximately 1020 CET on 14 January 2019, there was a substantial attendance of emergency vehicles at Bahnhofsplatz 1, Munich and the immediate area. It is unclear whether this was a response to an alarm or an exercise. The vehicles attending were on the three (available) sides of the building whose occupants include Commerzbank and 25 Hours Hotel although there was no obvious sign of an evacuation. Local traffic was controlled by the police but no road was closed completely. The attendance lasted about one hour.

Sweet Brown Snail by Jason Rhoades and (his mentor) Paul McCarthy, fibreglass.

For the title of this photograph of a delightful sight in Munich's Bavariapark, I have stuck to the official name of the work although other titles occurred to me. Sweet Brown Snail is, as one might expect, well photographed but I think it looks particularly cute in the snow and with its temporary mask. In a Munich which had been cold and wet for more than a week, this brought a smile to my face.

By the morning of 10 January 2019, snow which had started about 36 hours earlier had become heavy. The accumulation on and around the shrubbery in the courtyard of Le Méridien, Munich shows how deep it was.

Das Projekt Minna Thiel ist eine Kooperation der Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film (HFF) und der Kulturstätte Bahnwärter Thiel.

The Minna Thiel project is a collaboration between the University of Television and Film (HFF) and the cultural organisation Bahnwärter Thiel.

The photographs in my short series were taken outside the HFF at Bernd-Eichinger-Platz 1, München although the Minna Thiel temporary address is also given as Gabelsbergerstrasse 33. At the time of posting I have not determined the origin of the railcar.
