Victory Mural - 21 September 2021

A little over a month after the display of their beach mural, the Lee Art Group completed another piece ahead of the Lee Victory Festival to be held 24-26 September 2021. The High Street location would be part of the parade route during the festival. According to the text, this was designed by Paul Hitchcock (the spelling shown is, I believe, incorrect). The hoarding also features a gold ribbon which commemorates Sophie Fairall from neighbouring Stubbington who sadly passed away on 18 September with a rare cancer at the age of only 10.

The Marcus Rashford mural in Moorfield Street, Withington was created by artist Akse P19.

Following the loss by England to Italy in the final of Euro 2020, which was held in 2021 due to the pandemic, the mural was vandalised. Rashford was one of three England players who missed penalties in the loss. The reaction to the graffiti was to cover it with messages of support for the footballer. Subsequently, on Tuesday 13 July, with the messages moved to the sides and more being posted, the artist restored the mural to the accompaniment of much media and public interest.

A distinctive mural by Dan Kitchener (aka DANK) at the rear of the Hat & Feathers, 2 Clerkenwell Road, EC1.

The future of the mural was under threat as long ago as 2017 but development of an hotel to the rear of the pub has not yet taken place.

Light Wave by Dan Kitchener aka DANK

This is another photograph I have waited a long time to take as I do when I know I can easily go to a location. This morning the time and light were both right. One does not want harsh light with potential shadows on this kind of subject. This beautiful and vibrant mural shows taxis in Tokyo traffic and improves beyond measure a once grim wall, part of The Vine pub in Stoke Road, Gosport. The electrical box in front of the wall has been cleverly integrated into the image.

The mural above Urban Outfitters in High Street, Exeter was created in time for the store's opening in 2011 by Portuguese artist Vhils (Alexandro Farto). It replaced the Tudor House mural dating from 1991 when the store was Topshop. The subject is apparently intentionally anonymous and the chiselling away of the render to form parts of the image, intentional.

A rather striking mural by Onur of what appears to be an exploding light bulb on the side of Restaurant Noodle Factory, 1018 Rue Saint-Urbain, Montréal. The mural was created by the artist for Mural Festival 2017 and (reportedly) glows in the dark.

It is five months since David Bowie died and I have finally got some of the photographs I wanted. The David Bowie Mural was painted by James Cochran (Jimmy C) in 2013 and is on the side of Morleys store in Tunstall Road, Brixton.
