Chinchorro mummies at the Museo Arqueológico San Miguel de Azapa.

These mummies of the Chinchorro hunter gatherer culture in the Atacama desert in the far north of Chile are 2000 years older than the Egyptian mummies! The oldest artificially preserved mummy dates from 5050 BC, the oldest naturally preserved mummy is from 7020 BC.

In 2021 the Chinchorro sites and mummification process in Arica and Caleta/Valle Camarones were inscribed as UNESCO world heritage.

Das Museum in San Miguel de Azapa, hier noch der Altbau. Seit kurzem ist der Neubau eröffnet, der 2021 begonnen wurde, als die Chinchorro-Mumien Welterbe-Status erhielten.

Das Heimatmuseum von Upernavik umfasst die alten Kolonialgebäude, im Hauptbild die Kirche von 1839 und der alte Laden von 1864. Im gemauerten, außen gelb gestrichenen Teil wurden früher die Fässer mit Waltran gelagert.

Designed by architects Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret for the 1927 Werkbund-Ausstellung, the 2 semi detached houses Rathenaustrasse 1-3 (and another detached house) were listed as UNESCO World Heritage in 2016.

The interiour was designed with sliding doors and built-in furniture (the beds for instance could be stored in the wardrobes during the day) and painted in typical Bauhaus colours.
For the people living in the houses this concept was rather alien and they started changing the original design until all original features were lost. Finally in 2006 the semi detached houses were turned into a museum and the original interiour was restored after old photos and plans.

The furniture in MUNCH was specially designed for the new museum by Andreas Engesvik and Jonas Stokke (and produced by Vestre). Metal benches/chairs and matching cushions come in various colours inspired by Munch's paintings.

Im Hölderlinturm verbrachte Friedrich Hölderlin (1770-1843) die letzten 36 Jahre seines Lebens, nachdem er, an Schizophrenie erkrankt, als unheilbar aus der Klinik entlassen wurde. Im Turm ist heute ein dem Dichter gewidmetes Museum.

Permanenten Vestlandske kunstindustrimuseum (KODE1) had an exhibition of Bergen painters influenced by the Impressionists. Actually, the building was more impressive than the art (at the time the Munchs in KODE3 sadly were on loan).

Røros town and copper mines were founded in 1646 and operated until 1977, in 1980 the mines and town were declared UNESCO World Heritage. On the right is smelthytta (copper smelter) which today houses the museum, left are the slag heaps.

The late Egill Olafsson, farmer at Hnjótur in remote Patreksfjörður, accumulated quite a collection of old boats, airplanes and lots of other stuff- a typical pastime on isolated farms in the West Fjords (others had loads of old cars, built Eiffel towers from scrap metal etc...). This collection has been turned into a museum with cafè, a welcome lunch stop for tourists on their way to the bird cliffs of Látrabjarg.
(I couldn't find any information about the sculpture which from the other side shows the stylized prow of a boat with the cross on top)

Grenjaðarstaður has been settled since the 11th century, usually by the priests of the adjoining church and their families. The turf farm in its present state dates from 1865 and was inhabited (by up to 30 people!) until 1949 when it passed into the possession of the National Museum of Iceland.
The church bells are from 1663/ 1740 and the graveyard has a 15th century rune stone.
