A waggon chassis that, after some repair work, a few minor modifications and painting, will end up under a restored carriage.
Looks very rusty, but is only a surface dusting - the chassis had been shot-blasted but before it could be painted, the weather got rather wet. The shot-blaster will be going over it again, before painting.

NER [North Eastern Railway] carriages are "bowsiders" - a term describing the curved lower bodysides.
As a consequence, the lowest (bottom) door hinges need to have a much longer flap as shown by the nearest one (original, cast in 1901).
These are suitable patterns for casting new hinges, originally made for the rebuild to NER2853, but will also be suitable for TR6.

Application of Sapele veneers to the window reveals, using a glue requiring pressure when setting. Once cleaned up, this will be varnished.

Partially completed the sapele beading over the oak faced panelling; note the level of shine / reflections from the many coats of varnish. This conceals the planking of the bulkhead separating the small third class compartment (for the servants) from the first class saloon.
Also, note the repairs to the ceiling.

Clamps now removed and the sapele backing panel is ready to be varnished, the inset panel has vertical orientation to match that of the backing panel.

Using a seriously large number of clamps, the long vertical panel is fixed into position, using a mix of pins and glue, the latter requires pressure, hence the clamps.

This panel is ceiling to floor and fits alongside the main saloon doorway. At least one extra coat of varnish will be applied after installation. The boxed in void just above waist level will be filled with insulation - originally this was a block of horsehair, now rock wool / glass fibre has been used. The dark marks on the original ceiling show areas treated with wood hardening or resin products in areas damaged by screws.
