The trailhead for the climb up Mt. Whitney. The structures hold all of the information for people planning the very strenuous hike to the peak. I'd heard that the hike was popular, but was surprised to see how popular -- the parking lots for hikers were filled.

Before LADWP sucked all of the water out of the Owens Valley, there had been orchards. This scraggly row of trees is the first time I've seen what looks as if it could be the remnants of one of those orchards.

The remnants of some business that was on the old US 395. I couldn't figure out what it had been, but its close enough to the old road to have been some sort of service facility.

In the center of the photo a very large volcanic flow of some sort -- looking around on the web I can't find what to call these sorts of formations, even though they're common across California. To get a sense of its size, note the trees in front and off to the left. On the lower left is a lava flow. Near Division Creek, just off US-395.

Along CA-4, a large, brick, chimney apparently from a smelter or something like that. It was in front of a relatively large, older, house that seemed to be unrelated to the chimney.
