It is one of only two wrought iron railway viaducts remaining in the UK.

Passenger services were withdrawn in 1964 and Bennerley Viaduct closed altogether, along with the rest of the line, in 1968 as a result of the Beeching cuts. A contractor was appointed to demolish the viaduct but wrought iron cannot be cut up using conventional metal-cutting equipment and it would therefore have to be dismantled piece by piece. The cost was deemed prohibitive and the viaduct remained in situ.

HFF to everyone. Have a brilliant weekend.

Surprisingly the Old Post Office still had its old Post Office sign! It is now a private residence and Bramcote is no longer a small village being virtually connected to the city of Nottingham.
The estate, which was the seat of the Pelham-Clintons, Dukes of Newcastle, was purchased by the National Trust in 1946.

This is a very impressive building but in fact it is "only" the stables. The main house built in the 18th century suffered several fires and then post-WWI heavy taxation led the 9th Duke to demolish it in 1938.

There's only one bench but it's a long one and well used.

HBM to everyone. Enjoy the start of the new week.

To mark the occasion both GCR North & South participated in a weekend Gala.

The two halves were linked by a heritage bus service and I took it from Quorn to Ruddington. This is the northern terminus now with two platform roads and a central siding. Class 20 diesel D8154 sits in the new platform line only completed the day before! An HST or more fittingly for this celebration an Intercity125 is on the left with a Class 08 Jocko in the centre.

The platform bench is from the late-lamented Nottingham Victoria station. HBM to everyone. Enjoy the start of the new week.
