This is the stretch visible in the distance from Totscore and northern Skye. these islands are just visible on the horizon!
As a part of the Inner Seas off the West Coast of Scotland this stretch of water is known for its deep waters with strong currents, often with turbulent conditions, plus dramatic scenery, and rich marine environment.

This is the Calanais Standing Stones on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides and the most famous of several related stone settings in the Calanais area (including Calanais II, III, and others), forming part of a broader prehistoric ritual landscape. Often called the "Stonehenge of the North," the site features a distinctive cross-shaped arrangement of standing stones made from ancient Lewisian gneiss (some of the oldest exposed rocks on Earth). The main monument (Calanais I) includes:A central stone circle with 13 stones surrounding a tall central monolith (about 4.8–5 meters high).
An avenue of stones extending northward (roughly 83 meters long, formed by two parallel-ish rows that fan out slightly).
Rows of stones extending east, west, and south from the circle, creating the cruciform (cross-like) pattern
The stones were erected around 2900–2600 BC during the Neolithic period—predating the main phases of Stonehenge by several centuries (roughly 500 years earlier than its famous sarsen circle).

The central stone circle is shown in the image,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, It really does need a large view for the full effect !

The name translates roughly to "sitting by the river" or "river seat," referring to its position beside a river that flows into the sea. It's most famous for Amhuinnsuidhe Castle, a stunning 19th-century baronial-style country house (often called a castle) built in 1867–1868 for the Earl of Dunmore. Designed by architect David Bryce, it's a Category A listed building,

It has a Dramatic location overlooking Loch Leosavay, with views toward the island of Taransay and beautiful white-sand beaches (including nearby Hushinish).

HMY Iolaire, an Admiralty Yacht sank at the entrance of Stornoway harbour in the early morning, New Year’s Day, 1919. 280 Island servicemen were returning home from the Great War when the yacht struck a group of rocks a mile from safety in Stornoway Harbour and only a few yards offshore. 205 of the passengers perished of whom 181 were islanders.

The sculpture is an actual-size blueprint, 189 feet from stem to stern, with a 27 foot beam. It shows the true size of the vessel and represent the number of crew and passengers on board as she sailed for Stornoway on 31 December 1918.
