I photographed this orchid yesterday in a garden centre (Hoednerhof Ebbs, Austria). I have attached the original photo as a PiP. With the help of ChatGPT, a background was added that corresponds to its natural habitat.

Golden Rain (Laburnum anagyroides). It is found everywhere in the Garda region as a wild plant and is very poisonous in all parts of the plant. In Germany, it is one of the plants that the poison information centres have to deal with most frequently.

The main poisonous ingredient, cytisine, is approved as a tobacco cessation agent in Austria and Germany. It acts on the same receptors as nicotine without being addictive. (At the beginning of the 19th century, laburnum leaves were also used as a tobacco substitute. However, because it was not addictive, the tobacco industry could not make money with it).

Seen during the descent from Cima Capi.

Gemeiner Goldregen (Laburnum anagyroides). Er begegnet einem in der Gardaseeregion überall als Wildpflanze und ist in allen Pflanzenteilen sehr giftig. In Deutshcland gehört er zu den Pflanzen, mit denen sich die Giftinformationszentralen am häufigsten beschäftigen müssen.

Der giftige Haupt-Inhaltsstoff Cytisin ist als 'Asmoken' in Österreich und Deutschland als Tabakentwöhnungsmittel zugelassen. Er wirkt nämlich auf dieselben Rezeptoren wie Nikotin, ohne süchtig zu machen. (Anfang des 19ten Jahrunderts wurden Blätter des Goldregens auch als Tabakersatz verwendet. Weil er nicht süchtig machen, konnte die Tabakindistrie damit jedoch kein Geld verdienen.)

The budding inflorescence of White Butterbur (Petasites albus). The plant thrives in damp, shady locations, such as on the southern shore of Hintersteiner Sees in Tyrol (Austria). The lush leaves develop only after flowering.

Der aufkeimende Blütenstand des Weißen Pestwurz (Petasites albus). Die Pflanze gedeiht an feuchten, schattigen Standorten, wie am Südufer des Hintersteiner Sees in TIrol (Nördliche Kalkalpen). Die üppigen Blätter entwickeln sich erst nach der Blüte.

Bilberries (Vaccinium myrtillus, European blueberry) at high altitude. There they only ripen when the leaves are already red. I found these beautiful specimens at the end of September at the high alpine pasture "Klein Tibet im Zillergründl (1.880 m, Tyrol. Austria)

Heidelbeeren (Vaccinium myrtillus, Europäische Heidelbeere) in großer Höhe. Dort reifen sie erst, wenn das Laub schon rot wird. Diese schönen Exemplare habe ich Ende September an der Hochalm "Klein Tibet im Zillergründl (1.880 m, Tirol. Österreich) gefunden.

Primula auricula (Bear's ear): Nice to look at, but can easily cause allergenic dermatitis when touched.

The flower is common in the northern limestone Alps. This beautiful specimen stood at the upper end of the Via Ferrata Tristans Kirchbogenensteig near Wegscheid (Mariazeller Land, Styria, Austria)

Alpenaurikel (Primula auricula): Nett anzuschauen - kann bei Berührung jedoch leicht eine allergene Dermatitis hervorrufen.

Die Blume kommt in den nördlichen Kalkalpen häufig vor. Dieses schöne Exemplar stand am oberen Ende des Klettersteigs Tristans Kirchbogensteig in der Nähe von Wegscheid (Mariazeller Land, Steiermark, Österreich)

The autumn gentian (Gentianella amarella) is one of the last flowers on alpine pastures. Its habitat is in grass on lime-rich soil. This capture has been made on the Kohlenberg (1.362m), situated above the Sprissleralm in Kirchdorf (Tyrol, Austria).

Der kräftig violett blühende Herbstenzian (Gentianella amarella) ist eine der letztblühenden Alpenblumen, bevor der Schnee kommt. Er wächst auf Almwiesen auf kalkreichen Böden. Diese Aufnahme wurde vor ein paar Tagen auf dem Kohlenberg (1.362m), oberhalb der Sprissleralm in Kirchdorf (Tirol, Österreich) gemacht.

This plant begins to flower before the leaves are unfolded. Its botanical name is Cardamine enneaphyllos (frz.: cardamine à neuf folioles, ital.: dentaria a 9 foglie - does anybody know the english name?). It is rarely growing in the Tyrolese Limestone Alps. It's height is 20-30 cm.

Die Blätter haben sich noch nicht richtig entfaltet, da blüht der quirlblättrige Zahnwurz (Cardamine enneaphyllos) schon. Diesem wunderschönen Exemplar begnete ich gestern in den Buchenwäldern am südlichen Ufer des Hintersteiner Sees.
