The stones on the left depict the at present dilapidated Birnbeck Pier and across the bottom the famous steam ship, m/s Balmoral which has sailed from Weston for many years.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
More images of these lovely stones will follow in due course.&lt;br /&gt;

The image also features Britain's shortest pier, built in 1911 at just 100ft (ca. 30 metres) long.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

The short pier and slipway in the image foreground was I assume for the ferry which ran before a bridge was built in the late 18th century, This is now known as the Bridge over the Atlantic.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
*The Slate Islands are an island group in the Inner Hebrides, lying immediately off the west coast of Scotland, north of Jura and southwest of Oban. The main islands are Seil, Easdale, Luing, Shuna, Torsa and Belnahua. Slates quarried here were exported all over the world,&lt;br /&gt;

The breakwater is put to good use by a colony of Cormorants.&lt;br /&gt;
Ayr is the county town of Ayrshire, the administration center of South Ayrshire, and Ayr is the 15th largest settlement in Scotland. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

However the colour suits the dereliction that is Birnbeck Island and it's pier that links it to the mainland.&lt;br /&gt;
The good news is that  a group which includes North Somerset Council, Historic England and the RNLI,who were forced to abandon the lifeboat station on safety grounds in 2008. have now bought the whole complex with a view to restoration, but what a job that will be. (pier built in 1867)&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The island of Flat Holm complete with lighthouse (rear left) and the coast of South Wales in the far distance.&lt;br /&gt;

The higher lighthouse on the horizon just left of center and lower Lighthouse in pip, before GPS entrance to the two rivers was achevied by lining up both beacons which then indicated the deep water channels,&lt;br /&gt;

The higher lighthouse on the horizon just left of center and lower Lighthouse in pip, before GPS entrance to the two rivers was achevied by lining up both beacons which then indicated the deep water channels,&lt;br /&gt;
