The Patchwork Leafcutter Bee - Megachile centuncularis - is a solitary bee which carries pollen on the underside of the abdomen instead of the legs as other bees do. It is resident in both North America and Eurasia and will visit gardens as well as the countryside collecting pollen from various flowers but especially from Thistles and Brambles. This one, which I think is a female, was seen digging deep into the Thistle flower at Three Sisters Recreational area, Bryn, Wigan.

Vor allem gegen Ende des Winters sind in einem Bienenstock die Honig- und Pollenreserven für den Winter aufgebraucht und der Imker muss mit Zuckerwasser oder Zuckersirup das Bienenvolk am Leben erhalten. Wenn dann im Frühjahr die verschiedenen gelben und blauen Krokus-Sorten blühen, haben die Honigbienen wieder eine Nahrungsquelle mit hohem Nährwert zur Verfügung.

Especially towards the end of winter, the honey and pollen reserves in a beehive are used up for the winter and the beekeeper has to keep the bee colony alive with sugar water or sugar syrup. Then, when the different yellow and blue crocus varieties bloom in spring, the honey bees again have a food source with high nutritional value at their disposal.

Zur Zeit blühen die Sonnenblumen in den Gärten und auf Feldern. Sonnenblumen werden sehr gerne auch von Hummeln aufgesucht, weil die vielen zwittrigen Einzelblüten auf dem körbchenförmigen Blütenboden viel Pollen und Nektar anbieten.
Im Bild eine Hummel, die sich beim Besuch der Einzelblüten vollkommen mit Pollen eingestäubt hat und so mit Sicherheit zur Bestäubung, Befruchtung und Samenbildung ("Sonnenblumenkerne") beiträgt. Die Aufnahme entstand am Rand eines Sonnenblumenfeldes.

Sunflowers are currently blooming in gardens and fields. Sunflowers are also very popular with bumblebees, because the many hermaphrodite single flowers on the basket-shaped flower base offer a lot of pollen and nectar.
The picture shows a bumblebee that has completely dusted itself with pollen when visiting the single flowers and thus certainly contributes to pollination, fertilization and seed formation ("sunflower seeds"). The photo was taken at the edge of a sunflower field.

Dieser Gefleckte Schmalbock (Rutpela maculata) auf hat es auf die Staubblätter einer Gemeinen Schafgarbe (Achillea millefolium) abgesehen und frisst gezielt neben Nektar vor allem den Pollen, den die Blütenstände bereit stellen. Der Pollen ist eiweißreich und damit sehr nahrhaft. Wie auch das PiP zeigt, wird der Kopf des Insekts beim Fressen mit Pollenkörnern übersäht, wodurch der Käfer auch zur Bestäubung der Blüten beitragen kann. Der ungiftige und harmlose Schmalbock ist im Prinzip wie eine Wespe gefärbt und damit vor Angreifern weitgehend geschützt (Mimikry).

This spotted longhorn (Rutpela maculata) has its focus on the stamens of a common yarrow (Achillea millefolium) and, in addition to nectar, eats the pollen provided by the inflorescences. The pollen is rich in protein and thus very nutritious. As the PiP also shows, the insect's head is covered with pollen grains when it feeds, which also allows the beetle to contribute to pollination of the flowers. The non-poisonous and harmless narrow beetle is coloured like a wasp and thus largely protected from attackers (mimicry).

Im Bild die Nahaufnahme eines männlichen Weidenkätzchens, das neben Pollen auch Nektar produziert. Nicht nur Bienen profitieren von diesem zuckerhaltigen Saft, sondern wie im Bild zu sehen ist, auch Fliegen. Da dabei in ihren Borsten auch Pollen hängen bleibt, können sie diesen beim Besuch eines weiblichen Kätzchens übertragen und somit auch zur Bestäubung/ Befruchtung/ Samenbildung beitragen.

The picture shows a close-up of a male willow catkin that produces nectar as well as pollen. Not only bees benefit from this sugary juice, but also flies, as can be seen in the picture. Since pollen also gets stuck in their bristles, they can transfer it when visiting a female catkin and thus also contribute to pollination/fertilisation/seed formation.
