A rainy early morning visit to Bewdley station on the Severn Valley Railway finds Stanier 5MT 2-6-0 13268 being prepared to work trains later in the day.

This former Great Western Railway station is home to many historical artefacts including this GWR platform bench.

Bulleid Pacific West Country 34027 Taw Valley crosses over from shed road 2 to road 1 prior to backing down to take water. Its stock waits in Platform 1 behind in Loughborough Central station.

With frost on the ground the cold morning air is filled with the engine's exhaust giving the scene a steamy atmosphere.

Super Power!

Bulleid Battle of Britain pacific 34072 257 Squadron & British Railways Standard 5 4-6-0 73156 double-heading the 13.45 ex-Loughborough non-stop express to Leicester North.

Me and Andy were the crew on 73156 with this same working on Friday. We both agreed that it would make a great photo from across the field so the next day that's just where I went...

It's not obvious but if you look very carefully there is a fence just about visible!

Wreathed in steam British Railways Standard 2 2-6-0 78018 waits in the platform at Leicester North while running round its train; the 19.30 diner.

For once I wasn't on the footplate, I was just a regular punter enjoying dinner on the train with my wife & took advantage of the stop to grab a shot of the engine.

We have been here before!

Despite the name on the bench this is Loughborough station! The Great Central Railway is a heritage line that runs to Leicester but before it was closed as a main line in 1966 by BR it used to run to London Marylebone via Rugby. The bench was saved for preservation when that station closed.

The steam locomotive behind is Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0ST Robert running as 68067.

Looking forward from the tender of Stanier Mogul 5MT 2-6-0 13268. I was pulling coal down while the fire was burning through.

GWR 6990 Witherslack Hall shines in the line-up on road 3 and Loughborough box on the right awaits the arrival of the signalman.

The superb lines of a 1953 MG TD on the forecourt of Kidderminster SVR station. It was on display for the Vintage Transport Extravaganza held over that weekend. Each station had a display of vintage vehicles.

British Railways Standard 9F 2-10-0 92240 in the bay by the footbridge at Sheffield Park station. It was saved from Woodham's scrapyard in 1978 but it was to be another 12 years before it steamed again, the first 9F to do so in preservation. After a period of active service 92240 was withdrawn some time ago. There is a current scheme known as "Awake the Giant" actively seeking donations for its restoration.

During the recent Railways at Work weekend I was rostered for an early Sunday morning turn on Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0ST Robert (1752 of 1943) preserved as BR J94 68067.

I signed on at 5am and after cleaning out the old fire & lighting up again this was the scene an hour later. Although it was still warm there was no pressure on the boiler so the blower could not be used. Hence the clouds of billowing smoke inside the cab. It took ages to come round and clear the choking smoke and it was only later when we could move over the inspection pit that I discovered why; the ashpan was choked up to the bars! You need air passing through the firebed to really get it going and very little was.

At the end of another day on the GCR British Railways Standard 2 2-6-0 78018 is back on shed stabled on the middle road.

Behind it is BR Standard 9F 2-10-0 92214 out of ticket but being spruced up for its visit to Derby early in August and the 200 years of Railways, Great Gathering event.

The lineside clearance gang were out between GCR bridges 337 & 338 in Woodthorpe today. Dave & Andy take a break from cutting the brambles back to acknowledge Bill's wave from the footplate of BR Standard 2 2-6-0 78018 on the 10.00 Gold Datex trip.

It's good to see this Midland Railway relic is still in situ by the site of the long-gone Forster Square station in Bradford. It is at least 102 years old and the wrought iron MR is wearing thin!

This was the entrance to the station back in the day but today it is just a fence in the Midland Hotel car park. The present-day station is some distance further north.
