His father James was a Railwayman with LSWR and the family moved to Bishopstoke near Southampton when the Railway Locomotive Works was relocated to Eastleigh. Charlie joined the Royal Navy on HMS Invincible. He was killed in action at the Battle of Jutland 31st May 1916, age 17. Son of James John and Emily Mary Poole, one of ten children.
