DMU 1023 departs Thanonchira Jn, with a local service to the North East. 'Local' meaning a journey of at least 4 or 5 hours..The red disc in the windscreen is the equivalent of a tail lamp.

Front end detail. These 2900hp machines were delivered in two batches. No 4501-4522 built 1993 by Hitachi and classified as 8FA-36C HID, and 4523-4560 built 1995/96 by General Electric and classified as CM22-7i GEA, of which this loco is an example. Thanonchira Jn.

A decidedly rough sounding 4533 comes to a halt at Thanonchira Jn, Korat, with a Down train from Bangkok. It's been on the move for about 6 or 7 hours, with at least another 5 hours before it reaches its destination of Ubon Ratchathani, about 30 miles or so from the border with Cambodia.

The final series of main line locos delivered to SRT, in 1995/96. One of the big twin engined 2900hp Class 45s, No 4542 approaches Thanonchira Jn, Korat, with a heavy Up train of cement tanks, probably bound for the huge Siam Cement Co works at Hin Lap.

Hitachi built DMU 2520 at Bangkok, soon after arriving at 1455 with train 72, 0725 from Sikoraphum, in the North East. We'd rode on it from Thanonchira Jn, near Nakhon Ratchasima, departing at 1001.Classed as EXP DRC - Express Diesel Railcar - and air conditioned, when it worked, the train attracted a premium fare.

View from the signalbox at Thanonchira Jn as Alsthom AD24C ALD No 4303 arrives with a train to Bangkok. The second man hanging the single line token out of the window for collection by one of the station staff. Just 9 of these 2400hp 'Class 43s' were built, so I'd imagine that they would be rather rare on passenger trains.

'Class 40' No 4022 shunting the yard at Thanonchira Jn. It picked up a train of 20 container wagons and placed them in front of the short mixed freight it had arrived with, then departed southbound.

UM-12C, aka 'Class 40' No 4022 has just arrived at Thanonchira Jn with a short freight from the North East. The loco uncoupled and moved up the yard to collect a train of containers.

Class leader 4101 and one other parked outside Bangkok Hualamphong station. The first of a batch of 54 twin engine locomotives built by Alsthom in 1974/75. Rated at 2400hp.
