Finally, we have the first few of our "local" lambs in the nearby fields.
That is a pair of fraternal twins soaking up the sunshine.
Just as I clicked the shutter "mom" told them it was lunchtime, so they both trotted over for some "milk on tap" ... very cute !

A few years ago, a lot of snowdrop "slips" [side shoot bulbs] were planted along this greensward / verge. This year there is quite a show, as this closer view shows ! [maybe I'll do a bit of transplanting after flowering has finished].
Look closely, just in front of the wall, and you will be able to see the daffodils making a start on their 2025 appearance.

The other thing I need to do is spread out the molehills, there's always a few at this time of year, but the sheer number in 2025 has been staggering - there are, probably, over 200 just in this section. Before we get the lawnmower out !

Give it a few more days / a week or so and we'll cut back the old growth, and possibly collect a few seeds. I am thinking about dividing the original plant - the repotting involved will encourage extra steams and flowers.

The earliest clump of snowdrops to flower this year. As it is in a bit of a suntrap and a south-facing spot, it's not really surprising.

Yes, it was frosty !

Will be keeping an eye out for the buds opening & I may image some other patches of 'drops.

The first groups of snowdrop flower buds for 2025 poking up in the front lawn, became visible a few days after the snow melted.
Finally ! - everything seems to be much slower this year !
I'll get them again when the flowers actually open.
Plenty of other bulbs are starting to show above ground, so I'll need to watch where I'm putting my feet until they get a bit larger / more obvious.

I think that this is a sycamore twig [Acer pseudoplatanus] with the newly opened leaves still heavily crinkled as they expand from within the buds.

Not strictly speaking "native" but rather "naturalised" in the British Isles, sycamores can, and do, grow like weeds un many areas. They are problematical as the seeds contain a substance that is a cumulative poison to sheep, cattle and horses. The trees grow very quickly, are difficult to eradicate completely and seed very profusely once mature.

Almost summer now - and the wild pansies are making a brave show. They turn this patch of the "riverside" almost purple; that's all those little "blue" dots in the grass. There are literally hundreds of them ...
