According to web search results, Step Rock Tidal Pool in St Andrews can’t be accessed as it is now part of the Aquarium. The pool opened in 1902 although a bathing shelter was around in the late 1800s. The pool measured 300ft long by 100ft wide and the depth from 2ft 4ins to 8ft. There was also a small paddling pool. The area has a long history of being used for swimming even before a pool was built. The first bathing shelter was erected in 1873 and by 1887 the Step Rock had its own lifeguard, William Malloch.

At St Andres (sic), The tidal pool at Step Rock, next to the Old Course, created a little resort within a resort at St Andrews. It opened in 1902 and visitors recall trays of teas and coffees from the kiosk, with long days spent on deckchairs and children content in the sand with buckets and spades.
