This pretty little flower is an easy-to-grow annual that will reseed itself if the conditions aren't too bad. When I was watering my garden from spring through fall, I'd get new Stock blossoms the next spring without planting them. But if I didn't water my garden at all, I wouldn't see any the next spring. These pretty little blossoms appear in colors ranging from white through a deep magenta and all shades in-between. They are wonderful! :) (roll your mouse over the upper left corner to see two more pictures of Virginia Stock flowers.)

Now that the mornings are cool and there is so much more moisture in the air, every morning now begins with dew-laden grass, sparkling everywhere like a billion diamonds! I enjoyed seeing the twinkling dew as I went over to my caged-in metal trough garden to look for a pretty flower to photograph. I smiled because finally, a nearly-white version of a wildflower that grows there was in a perfect position for a picture! I was also very pleased to see that it was covered with tiny dewdrops to make an elegant show!

Khalil Gibran (full Arabic name Gibran Khalil Gibran, sometimes spelled Kahlil;(January 6, 1883 – April 10, 1931) was a Lebanese artist, poet, and writer.Wikipedia: Kahlil Gibran

170/365: "I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers." ~ Claude Monet

We put a mesh fence around my metal tub, but the larger area was not protected. The morning I got up and found the gorgeous plant that was about to erupt into bloom had been completely eaten, we went out and got a motion-detecting spayer. It's WORKING!! These two blossoms are a few that are still alive after several days and I'm elated!!!

I chose this quote because it not only fits, but Steve and I are currently watching a very interesting, well-done BBC mini-series called, "The Impressionists", which is reconstructs the origins of the Impressionist art movement and features Claude Monet (among others). It's very good! :)

Claude Monet (14 November 1840 – 5 December 1926) was a founder of French impressionist painting, and the most consistent and prolific practitioner of the movement's philosophy of expressing one's perceptions before nature, especially as applied to plein-air landscape painting. The term Impressionism is derived from the title of his painting Impression, Sunrise (Impression, soleil levant)Wikipedia: Claude Monet
