Here's a photo I took two years ago of an alley in downtown Jackson called Victory Lane.

Since I took this photo the building's become The Lofts of Jackson. As part of the Lofts project the murals were removed so they could punch windows in the walls.

Last month Jackson's Bright Walls effort put new murals on this wall. Simultaneously the city renamed the alley; it's now the Emma Nichols Garden, after a fugitive slave who lived a long life in the city. The landscaping has also been reworked since I took this photo.

I'll show you the alley's new look tomorrow, and will follow with closer looks at the new murals.

My favorite of the Bright Walls Jackson murals I've seen, and the last in this set. I'm sure this mural has a name, but again I'm unable to find it; nonetheless, it's clearly related to this work. And apparently to another I've not been able to find online.

It's gorgeous.

Above Emily Ding's wall, on a black background, is a mural by Melissa Moore of Jackson. It's an excellent work, but I didn't get an acceptable photo of it. Perhaps next time I'm in Jackson.

Another detail from David Rice's mural at Bright Walls Jackson. In truth this is more a photo of Rice's work surface than of his work, though I like and admire the painting I've captured here.

Age has made the brickwork at the bottom of the wall ragged. Higher up the wall's less difficult, but hardly a consistent surface.

Mural by David Rice, who oddly isn't listed as one of the artists on the Bright Walls website. The site's map gets it right, though; it's number 35 on the listing.

I know this wall pretty well. The parking lot's across the street from Jackson Coffee, and I've photographed the wall a couple times. The messy brickwork remains, but it's disguised a bit by the mural.

As usual, I can't find that the artist named this work. His website just describes it as a Mural for Bright Walls.

Three more murals from Jackson's 2019 Bright Walls festival, on the walls of the parking lot behind Bella Notte restaurant. An artist who calls himself ZOER painted the wall on the left, George Rose decorated the long wall, with Ben Johnston's contribution between.

ZOER's wall used to look like this. The new artwork is quite a change.

Johnston apparently calls his mural RELAX, which makes sense. Couldn't locate names for the others....

Mural by Arlin Graff, part of the 2019 Bright Walls event that took place in Jackson (MI) earlier this month. I imagine this piece has a name, but I've not found it. Here's the full thing.

A couple friends and I get together at Jackson Coffee every couple weeks. When we were last here Mr. Graff was beginning to work on this painting; 'twas a bunch of apparently-random lines drawn on the white wall of the building at that time. (Linked photo by Nathan Nowsch.) But it all came together, quite impressively.

I'll be posting pix of a few of the murals over the next few days. Likely in a bit I'll photograph some of the other murals, and post those.
