➽ An der Stadtgrenze zwischen Augsburg und Königsbrunn liegt am westlichen Auwald der Lechebene der Ilsesee. (Ja, Poly, der heißt tatsächlich so! ;-D)
Er ist ein geschlossenes Gewässer, welches grundwassergespeist ist und keinen natürlichen Zu- und Ablauf hat. Die Wasserfläche beträgt ca. 12 ha, die durchschnittliche Wassertiefe 9 m, an der tiefsten Stelle 15 m.
In den 1980er Jahren wurde in kürzester Zeit mit Mitteln des EVA (Erholungsgebieteverein Augsburg) aus einem Baggersee ein Badeparadies geschaffen. Das Erholungsgebiet verfügt über Liegewiesen, einen Kiosk mit WC-Anlagen, Kinderspielplätze, eine Wasserwachtstation und einen Parkplatz.
Der Ilsesee ist einer der wenigen Seen in der Region, in dem mit Atemgeräten getaucht werden kann.

It's a closed body of water, fed by groundwater and has no natural inflow and outflow. The water surface is approx. 12 ha, the average water depth 9 m, at the deepest point 15 m
In the 1980s, funds from the EVA (Recreational Areas Association Augsburg) were used to create a swimming paradise from a quarry pond. The recreation area has lawns, a kiosk with toilet facilities, children's playgrounds, a Water watch station and a parking lot. The Ilsesee is one of the few lakes in the region where you can dive with breathing equipment.

Die Lech- und Wertachkanäle in Augsburg dienen seit vielen Jahrhunderten der Nutzung der Wasserkraft aus den Flüssen Lech und Wertach. Bis zu der Errichtung des Hochablass-Wasserwerkes wurde zwischen den Quellbächen aus dem Stadtwald, die das Trinkwasser lieferten, und den Lechkanälen, die den Aufgaben der Energiegewinnung und Abwasserbeseitigung dienten, strikt getrennt. Die Kanalsysteme des Lechs und der Wertach verlaufen parallel zueinander und münden, kurz bevor sich die beiden Flüsse in der Wolfzahnau vereinen, in den jeweiligen Fluss zurück.
Lech-Kanäle: Gesamtlänge 77,7 km Wertach-Kanäle: Gesamtlänge 11,6 km

Am 15. Januar 2015 wurde die historische Augsburger Wasserwirtschaft für die Welterbeliste der UNESCO nominiert. Im Juli 2019 wurde dem Antrag entsprochen, sodass die Kanäle seit diesem Zeitpunkt Teil des Weltkulturerbes sind. Quelle: Wikipedia

The Lech and Wertach canels in Augsburg serve for many centuries the use of water power from the rivers Lech and Wertach. Until the establishment of the Hochablass waterwork was strictly separated between the source in the urban forest, which provided drinking water and the Lech channels that served the functions of energy and sanitation. The canal systems of the Rivers Lech and Wertach are parallel and just before the two rivers unite lead in the rivers back.
Lech channels: total length 77.7 km Wertach channels: total length 11.6 km

On January 15, 2015, the historic Augsburg water management was nominated for the UNESCO World Heritage List. In July 2019, the application was approved so that the canals have been part of the World Heritage since then. Source: Wikipedia

Das "Bassin de Latone" erinnert an die römische Göttin Latona: Mit ihren kurz zuvor geborenen Zwillingen Apoll und Artemis, Kinder Jupiters, kommt Latona, von Jupiters Ehefrau vertrieben, nach Lykien, eine Landschaft in Kleinasien. Sie ist erschöpft von der drückenden Hitze und der langen Reise und sie hat großen Durst. Zufällig trifft die Notleidende auf einenTümpel, doch die Bauern lassen die Verdurstende nicht trinken. Mit ihrer Bitte um etwas Wasser für sich und ihre Kinder, findet sie kein Gehör. Die Bauern bleiben unerbittlich - und am Ende trifft sie der göttliche Zorn: Latona verwandelt sie alle in Frösche.

The "Bassin de Latone" is reminiscent of the Roman goddess Latona: With her recently born twins Apoll and Artemis, children of Jupiter, comes Latona, expelled from Jupiter's wife, to Lycia, a landscape in Asia Minor. She is exhausted from the oppressive heat and the long journey and she is very thirsty. By chance, the suffering woman found a pond, but the farmers don't let them drink. With her request for some water for herself and her children, she finds no hearing. The peasants remain relentless - and in the end they meet the divine wrath: Latona transforms them all into frogs.
