Today 5 years ago at the first ascent of the via ferrata Peter-Kofler in the Stafflach Cliff in St. Jodok (Tyrol, Austria). In the background the Brenner motorway. (Captured by my wife.)

An interesting detail: The railway drives here - coming from the Wipptal from Innsbruck - into this side valley, makes a big turn and drives out on the other side again in the direction of Italy. This way she gains the necessary height without having to climb >2.5% (Good to see on OpenStreetMap).

Ein interessantes Detail: Die Eisenbahn fährt hier - aus dem Wipptal von Innsbruck kommend - in dieses Nebental hinein, macht einen großen Bogen und fährt auf der anderen Seite wieder heraus Richtung Italien. So gewinnt sie die nötige Höhe, ohne dass die Steigung >2,5% sein müsste (Gut auf OpenStreetMap zu sehen).

View from the fixed rope route Stafflach Cliff (St. Jodok, Tirol, Austria) to one of the construction sites of the Brenner-Basistunnel (bbt) within the valley Wipptal. In the year 2025, when it will be finished, it will be the longest railway tunnel of the world: 64 km (from Tulfes to Franzesfeste). The tunnel shall unburden the Brenner Highway, which is passed by more than 2.000.000 trucks per year. (The existing railway line, which has been established 150 years ago, operates at it's limit of 240 trains per day.)

Blick vom Klettersteig Stafflacher Wand (St. Jodok, Tirol) auf eine der Baustellen für den Brenner-Basistunnel (bbt) im Wipptal. Wenn der Tunnel 2025 fertig ist, wird er - mit 64 km (von Tulfes bis Franzesfeste) - der längste Eisenbahntunnel der Welt sein. Er soll die Brennerautobahn, die jährlich von mehr als 2 Mio. LKW befahren wird, vom Güterverkehr entlasten. (Die bestehende Bahnlinie, die vor 150 Jahren erbaut wurde, hat mit täglich 240 Zügen ihre Kapazitätsgrenze erreicht.)

2nd Method: by train. (The picture shows the railway through the Wipptal from Innsbruck (Austria) to Bozen (Italy). It's the railway connection with the highest traffic density in Europe: Every 6 minutes a train - 240 a day. It's works at it's limit.)

2. Methode: mit der Eisenbahn. (Die Aufnahme zeigt die Trasse der Brenner-Eisenbahn durch das Wipptal von Innsbruck (Österreich) nach Bozen (Italien). Mit 240 Zügen täglich ist die Strecke an der absoluten Auslastungsgrenze. Das bedeutet: alle 6 Minuten ein Zug!)
