Unusually for an Icelandic volcano, Eyjafjallajokull's April 2010 eruption produced significant amounts of ash, and at high altitudes. As the dispersion forecast shows, the ash affected a good deal of European air space, grounding a good many flights to protect jet engines.
There has been some debate whether this was really necessary ...

Eruption plume from Tonga's Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha'apai volcano on 15th January 2022. This, and an accompanying tsunami was the culmination of an eruption that started around the 20th December 2021. The tip of the plume was estimated to have reached 55km in altitude and ash was widely distributed over the southern Pacific Ocean. NASA estimated the blast as about 10 Megatons of TNT ...

Look closely at the stem in the centre - it is actually two ash saplings twisted around each other.
If they were to survive [the area has ash-dieback disease] and grow to full tree size, that would make for some very interesting grain patterns.
