A Close Call

This was our backyard Saturday evening when I managed to get home and get a few more things from our house. The photo is of our back fence and garden and shows how close the fire came. Our home and the homes of our immediate neighbors were spared though three homes in the area did burn. These firefighters, many of whom had not slept for several days, are our heroes, and are the ones who saved our homes and the homes of our neighbors. We cannot thank them enough.

This was the only photo I took on World Photography Day for obvious reasons. We were thinking of other things besides photography that day. It is not the greatest photo, but certainly encapsulates the day for us, when we came as close as ever we have come to losing our home and possessions. The fire is now out in our area and we are getting some rain for the first time in three months, so our situation has improved dramatically since the photo was taken.

It's been a good winter for the local deer - no prominent ribs or hips means they've fed well this winter. They'll be a sight when they start shedding their winter coats, though.

Photo taken through double window panes, so not the greatest.

You are looking at the result of over a weeks work to convert dead grass and sand pit into some thing I can use in the new house that is more like some thing we can live with. This is just how I pictured it when we first saw it and why we took this house. the area is 8M x 4M so you can see just how much work went in here a little why I have not been on ipernity each day..

The back yard garden hasn't been that spectacular this year. Lots of color, but so many weeds and it desperately needs a good thinning. Still waiting for my tennis elbow to go away so I can get in there and work.

Halfway through summer it began to be evident that we were seriously lacking rainfall. Unfortunately, most of the summer was hot and dry, and the results were disastrous for many big farms around New England.
