This is another photo from one of our hikes in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in southern California. The hike was only a couple of miles but took us through this narrow canyon where in places we had to turn sideways to get through and in others scramble or climb a bit.

We were in Anza-Borrego Deserrt State Park this past week camping and hiking (we were also at the wildlife refuges on the south end of the Salton Sea). The temperatures were wonderfully warm, a contrast to the -12C temperatures at home. Our two main hikes were this one, through the Slot, a narrrow canyon in the badlands of Anza-Borrego, and a hike up into Hellhole Canyon in the mountains, shown in the inset. Both hikes were fabulous and hikes we had not done before.

We often make a side trip through the Badlands of South Dakota when traveling from Washington to Michigan to see family. This was taken on a 2019 visit to Badlands National Park.

Taken in the Yellow Mounds area of Badlands National Park, South Dakota, this is one of the many photos we've taken on different trips through the Badlands. The park is not far off Interstate 90 and we often drive through it on our way to the midwest or back home.

These are some of the colorful formations that are found in Badlands National Park in South Dakota. I often wonder when we are there what the first pioneers who came through the area thought when they reached the area and the hardships they faced getting through.

The main road through Badlands National Park in South Dakota is just off Interstate 90 and easily accessible, though there are other areas to explore that are less so. We often take a few hours when traveling across the country to drive the main road and see the incredibly beautiful and colorful formations for which the Badlands are known.

The Badlands of South Dakota are near Interstate 90 and we often drive through them if we have a little extra time. In 2019 we drove in from the southwest, from Rapid City and spent a good part of a day there.

Badlands National Park is in South Dakota. We often drive through the park when traveling across country since the drive through the park is just off Interstate 90. It is a very desolate and barren but beautiful area and worthy of its status as a National Park.
