silver badges worn by those pupils taken into christ's hospital bluecoat school to be trained for the navy. these are c18 examples, but pupils today wear similar on the chest of their bluecoat. charles 2 instituted this branch of the tudor school.

this c17 bluecoat boy on the old hall comes from the school at ware, from which boys still go to horsham. note the early uniform with petticoats and collar rather than bands.

founded in 1688 by william greene, owner of watney's brewery, and built 1709 on caxton street. in common with the first bluecoat school , christ's hospital, the boys wore a uniform of breeches with silver buttons, a blue frock coat with neck bands, and yellow socks to deter vermin.
