The pebble beach and victorian pier at Eastbourne. I called them walls last time but this time I'm calling them fences!! Whatever, the groynes are doing a good job of holding back the longshore drift and anyway there's definitely a fence on the pier...

The rain came to Calpe during our stay but despite the orange storm alert it was no more than a few hours of moderate rainfall and the sun shone again in the afternoon. The real storms were north of us where floods and road closures were reported in Denia & Javea. Thankfully nothing like on the scale of a few weeks ago.

When we came out the clouds were tinged with red. I thought I would wait for the red to spread but unfortunately I think we had just left it too late because the red slowly disappeared instead! Next time...

It was a beautiful warm day but Arenal-Bol beach in Calpe is quiet in November. Perfect for a stroll by the water's edge.

As the sign indicates Calpe has a policy of keeping the area free of plastic waste. In fact the gathered plastic is recycled and used to make benches on the promenade.

The view from the top of the Saltburn Cliff Lift, the oldest operating water-balance cliff funicular railway in the UK with Saltburn pier, the beach and the (amazingly blue) North Sea beyond.

The pier opened in 1869 and the funicular in 1884. Unfortunately for us the tramway wasn't working for technical reasons which meant lots of steps down & back up too!

Sandsend is literally the end of the sand-y beach north of Whitby. The ruined Whitby Abbey is just visible on the clifftop in the distance.

En route to Indonesia from the US we were going to take the train from Sydney to Perth but the railwaymen went on strike. We took the plane instead & so we had 3 more days in Western Australia.

We rented a car and drove out of the city. This beautiful deserted beach on the Indian Ocean was just off the road north of Perth I think.

Anyone recognise it?

We left Mexico City by coach and after an overnight in Taxco we reached the Pacific coast at Acapulco where we spent the rest of the week. This was the view from our hotel window on the beach.
