the hoby chapel of c.1550 contains some of the most important tombs in england. the church is locked nowadays, and no key available locally for visitors . I do hope that this church has never had any public money. . . .

porch by ferrey, 1849, with the river thames beyond. the sign say that the church is always locked, and there is no key nearby. you must make an appointment at least 24 hours earlier and even then you may not get in. . . how do we expect future generations to give a damn about churches if they are inaccessible ? locked doors don't deter thieves and vandals, they just mean there's no one around to stop them, or even care.
