This was a test shot to try out my new (to me) camera.......a Panasonic LUMIX DMC-TZ100. I decided I needed a compact (ish) camera I could fit into a coat pocket, when doing everyday stuff. It's actually far more complicated than my "proper" cameras and it's taking a bit of getting used to, but so far, so good..!!

Best viewed large, I think.

I have taken lots of photos of this church over the years and it remains one of my favourite places. The landscape changes throughout the year, and so do the crops planted in the field. This year it is sunflowers. The foreground gets very wet and boggy in the winter time as the rain runs off the hill towards the road.........hence the reason for the little bridge.

It is also a very peaceful place. Sometimes when I visit, I like to sit on a bench in the church grounds and just enjoy the views and the quietness.

I initially arrived here mid-morning but it was overcast and drizzling with rain. The sunflowers were all facing towards the church, which I wanted to get in the photo, so although I took some photos I was disappointed.

I revisited again later in the day when the sun was out and took this photo. Unfortunately the sunflowers were still facing in the wrong direction, but I decided this was the best I was going to get and anyway, the rain clouds were gathering again.

Out of several shots I took, this was my wife's favourite........so if you don't like it I can blame her. No pressure :-)

Please view large, on black. Thanks for looking and have a good day!

They are now used as a green space and leisure area.

In the 1930s the western end of the moat became known as the Hilsea lagoon and in the mid-1930s work was done on the banks and it was turned into a boating lake. In the same period the land between the boating lake and the lines was converted into part of the leisure area (which also includes Hilsea Lido, an outdoor swimming pool).

The moat is no longer a boating lake, but part of it is used as a training area for water-skiing and similar water sports. There is also also a large BMX track. Despite it's closeness to the M275 and other main roads it's a lovely quiet place for a walk.

One span of the bridge was destroyed during the Civil War and replaced by a drawbridge. The bridge's central arch was modified in 1822 and bears this date.

The bridge carried the A283 through the village, with traffic light control being introduced in 1936. The bridge was badly damaged by Army lorries during the Second World War but has been repaired since.

In 1986, a new reinforced concrete bridge, located 100 feet North of the old bridge was completed to carry all the road traffic leaving this bridge to pedestrians and cyclists only.

The water on this day was much higher than normal due to the unusual amount of rainfall so far this year.
