Named for nearby Mt Dromedary, this little hotel is in the main street of the village of Central Tilba, established in the 1890s as a base for the local dairy industry and still with a cheese factory. Happy bench Monday and let's all hope for a good week.

Built in Sydney in 1901 to manufacture rum barrels (a rum distillery was nearby), this building has been preserved and the interior now rebuilt as executive offices, though with some historic links, such as the old barrel lift and some other old equipment (PiPs). There also is now a very good coffee shop (with the folded black umbrella seen in the first PiP). Happy Wednesday Wall, everyone.

Auckland seems to have preserved its classic buildings more than Australian cities. How good are the details on these walls on the Ferry Building in the Downtown/maritime area! Viewed large the building name is legible near the end roof.

When the railway from Sydney reached Bundanoon in 1868, the Southern Highlands (cooler because of the height) became a popular destination during summers. The station is now heritage listed and these buildings (on the southbound side) date from 1910.

The Australian airline QANTAS (short for Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services) operated its first flight in 1920 from its original base at Longreach Airport. Today that airport houses the QANTAS Founders Museum and a range of aircraft it once operated. See also the PiP.

Again, time and travel prevented a stop, but there is a rather large wall. Happy Wednesday Wall, everyone.

Since some of my ipernity friends saw the Royal Hotel (see PiP) they have been keen to stay there. We're looking here into the Ladies' Lounge, complete with fireplace, where I'm sure they will be very comfortable. :-)

The (former) Royal Hotel, built in 1883, was one of three hotels in Birdsville. It transferred to the Australian Inland Mission for use as a hospital from 1923 until 1937, then it was used as a private residence for some years. More extensive background information in the PiP.

The sign (just out of shot to the left) is clear that this is a Private Residence. Dating from 1883, this building was clearly built as a church, but as Australia has become an increasingly secular nation there now are many such former churches.
