Bisons (Bison bonasus) in the Alpine Zoo Innsbruck (Tyrol, Austria). The young animal saw the light of day at the beginning of August. (Taken during our annual club outing with the local camera club.)

For a few months the cattle on the high alpine pastures have the purest paradise. But for us the herd was a serious problem. Because they had gathered exactly on the hiking trail, which in the picture leads from the bottom left to the top right.

Für einige Monate haben die Rinder auf den Hochalmen das reinste Paradies. Für uns stellte die Herde allerdings ein ernstes Problem dar. Denn sie hatte sich genau auf dem Wanderweg versammelt, der im Bild von links unten nach rechts oben führt.

The lead animal is standing right on the hiking trail. It wouldn't be a good idea to get it excited. In an emergency, it'll be faster than we are.

Das Leittier steht genau auf dem Wanderweg. Es wäre keine gute Idee, es in Aufregung zu versetzen. Im Ernstfall ist es schneller als wir.

To avoid the herd we left the trail and crawled through the rough terrain next to it. This enabled us to take this rare shot of a calf with its mother, who was keeping it carefully.

Zur Umgehung der Herde haben wir den Wanderweg verlassen und sind durch das unwegsame Gelände daneben gekraxelt. Das ermöglichte diese seltene Aufnahme eines Kalbes mit seiner Mutter, die es wachsam behütete.

When the cows are back from the mountain pastures and graze the last green from the meadows, it will not last long until winter arrives in Tyrol.

Wenn die Rinder von den Almen geholt sind und noch einmal das letzte Gras von den Wiesen zupfen, dann ist es in Tirol nicht mehr lang hin, bis der erste Schnee fällt.

Schon Kälber wissen, was ihren Mägen gut tut. Alpenrosen gehören definitiv nicht dazu:

Ein ziemlich junges Kalb auf der Bergalm. (Gesehen oberhalb der Binsalm im Karwendel, Tirol).
