This was our last campsite in Yosemite where we camped for one night sleeping in the car as we often do when traveling. We left the next morning for home. For those who are unacquainted with such campgrounds the box in front of the car is a bear box, a place to keep food and other items safe from bears who will break into cars or recreational vehicles for food and other scented items.

The photo was taken from a backpacking camp in the Colorado Rockies when we hiked and backpacked there in 2020. We were camped on the west side of Trailrider Pass and were waiting for the sunset when the photo was taken.

This was Trailrider Pass in the Colorado Rockies when we hiked up and through the pass for a second time. We had come up and over from Snowmass Lake the day before and were on our way back over the pass and on to Buckskin Pass when the photo was taken.

This was the creek west of Trailrider Pass where we filled our water bottles and from which we took water for cooking when camped the second night of last year's hike in the Colorado Rockies.

Baker Lake

Earlier this week we went on an overnight backpacking trip with our oldest daughter who was visiting from the United Kingdom. We hiked the east bank of Baker Lake about five miles in and set up camp at Noisy Creek and then hiked another four or five miles wilthout packs along the lake. The day we hiked in was beautiful but turned cloudy and rainy in the evening and we packed up and hiked out in the rain the next day. The photos were all taken taken from our campsite, this in the evening as the weather changed.

Grapevine Hills

Those who have been following my posts will remember that we drove two full days to get to Texas from Washington. We went first to San Antonio and spent two days there enjoying a beautiful guesthouse that some of our children had booked for us. We left San Antonio on a Friday morning and drove on to Big Bend National Park in southwest Texas, a place I had always wanted to visited, and arrived there mid-afternoon. We can in the north entrance, stopped at the Panther Gap Visitors' Center and then drove a bit west on the main road and back north on a very rough gravel road to the Grapevine Hills area. We drove first to our campsite, really nothing more than a turnoff with no amenities except a bear box and then drove part of the way back down the road to the trailhead for Balanced Rock where we spent the rest of the afternoon and the early evening hiking before returning to our campsite for the night. The rest of the photos are of the area where we camped and there is one photo of our van parked in our campsite.

Grapevine Spring Campsite

This is our van parked in our campsite in the Grapevine Hills area of Big Bend National Park. We had our inflatable kayak and backpacks in the cartop carrier and slept in the back of the van with our backpacking sleeping bags. We also have a small cupboard for our food and cooking gear and can put up curtains if we want, though we did not need them here.

No, the photo is not slanted. These were some of the formations along the Grapevine Hills Road in Big Bend National Park in Texas. We were on our way to our campsite when we stopped along the road for this and other photos.

After arriving in Big Bend National Park mid-afternoon we drove the Grapevine Hills road to our first campsite, just a place in the backcountry to park our vehicle for the night. After stopping in at the campsite we drove back down the road to the traiolhead for Balanced Rock and spent the rest of the day hiking there.

Our first stop in Big Bend National Park was the Grapevine Hills area. We camped there a night and hiked there to Balanced Rock, this photo taken along the road to our campsite.

Robson Pass Camp

This was our destination and our camp at Robson Pass with Rearguard Mountain in the background. We had a choice of campsites in the trees or in the open and opted for the latter on a account of the mosquitoes. My wife is enjoying a cup of tea, reward for a good day of hiking.

This was taken near Warm Springs Camp in Death Valley and appears to be an area where there were buildings for the storage of equipment. Nothing is left now but some concrete slabs.

This old mine, probably a talc mine, is along the Warm Springs Canyon Road in Death Valley. The area is full of old mines many of them gold mines.

White Point Mine

This the now abandoned White Point talc mine at Warm Springs in Death Valley. It was last owned by the Pfizer Corporation and was worked into the 1990's when the National Park obtained the property. The photo is taken through the gate that now prevents access to the mine.

This is a close-up photo of part of the ore crusher at Warm Springs in Death Valley near the camp there. There are both gold and talc mines in the area, a talc mine last owned by the Pfizer Corporation near the camp.

White Point Mine

This is the sign at the now abandoned talc mine near Warm Springs in Death Valley, an area full of old mines. The mine was closed but we explored the surrounding area for the better park of a day. The sign reads: "White Point Mine - Pfizer Inc. - Danger - Mining Equipment - No Trespassing". Though not the original owners, the mine was owned by Pfizer from the 1980's to the 1990's when the National Park Service finally obtained the property.

This is a view of the area around Warm Springs in Death Valley. The old mining camp can be seen at the far left and the mining equipment near the camp at the middle of the photo while the photo itself was taken from the nearby talc mine.
