Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Lisieux (Saint Peter’s Cathedral) was the seat of the Bishop of Lisieux until the diocese of Lisieux was merged in 1801 into the diocese of Bayeux.

Most probably there was already a church here in the 6th century. This is because a Bishop of Lisieux existed around that time. A previous cathedral, built in the Romanesque style, was unfortunately burned down in 1136. The basic shape of the church, especially the front part, stayed the same. Rebuilding of the cathedral started around 1160. In 1226, another fire damaged the cathedral. During the repairs three small chapels were added to the back of the church.

Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Lisieux survived World War II completely unharmed. This is quite amazing, as the town of Lisieux itself suffered from allied bombing in 1944.

Kleine Kapelle auf dem Gornergrat

Die Kapelle am Gornergrat ist aufgrund ihrer Lage auf 3100 Metern eine besondere Stätte. Sie ist dem Heiligen "Bernhard von Aosta", dem Schutzpatron der Alpen gewidmet.

Seit dem Bestehen des Kulmhotels auf dem Gornergrat Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts wurden im Sommer die Sonntagsmessen im Speisesaal des Hotels gelesen. Der Bischof äusserte den Wunsch nach einer Kapelle. 1950 wurde der Bau realisiert.

Utrecht 2026 – Domkerk

The first church in Utrecht was built around 630, but this church was built from 1254 onwards to the 16th century. In 1566 the Iconoclastic Storm meant that much of the interior was demolished. In 1674 a violent derecho caused the nave of the church to collapse.

The Janskerk was consecrated in 1040. The large stones are original and they came from present-day Germany.

The church tower in Utrecht is the highest in the Netherlands. After a storm part of the church collapsed, so the tower is separated from the church.
