The photo is from an orchid hunting trip to the Olympic Peninsula with friends from Canada. The place is the city of Port Angeles and its harbor on the north end of the Peninsula.

The photo is from Olympic National Park in Washington and from the visitors' center at the end of the Hurricane Ridge Road. Olympic National Park is a huge park with many different areas of interest, mountains, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, rainforests, seacoast, beaches, huge trees and wildflowers, elk and deer, mountain goats, birds, waterfowl and many other things to see. Hurricane Ridge and the road to it are one of the most popular parts of the park.

Park Butte Trail

The photo, taken on a recent hike to Park Butte in the North Cascades of Washington, looks down the valley up which we came across a small lake aptly named, Pocket Lake. The inset is of the fire lookout on Park Butte where we ate our lunch before hiking down.

Sunrise over Lake Roosevelt

On a recent trip to see our family members west of the Cascades we traveled by way of Highway 2 and Highway 20. The day was largely overcast but we did stop for some photos near Grand Coulee Dam. This was sunrise over Lake Roosevelt, the reservoir behind the dam. Grand Coulee Dam is one of the dams on the Columbia River.

Big Bend Sunrise

This was actually taken some time after sunrise the last day of our stay in Big Bend National Park. The day was a mix of heavy clouds and sunshine with occasional rain and we had wanted to hike near our evening campsite but when we arrived there it was dull with rain forecasted. We ended up driving back to the Chisos Basin and hiking there, the only place in the park, so it seemed, that the sun was shining. The other photos show some of the weather we encountered as we drove around looking for something to do.

Panther Junction is a visitors' center and main junction in Big Bend. We stopped there the last day of our trip to Big Bend to get a weather report.

Chisos Mountains

This was the kind of weather we experienced on the last day of our trip to Big Bend National Park. Strangely enough, it was in the basin beyond these mountains that we finally found some sunshine and did some hiking.

Chisos Mountains

After driving north to our campsite and finding clouds and rain there we drove back south to the Chisos Mountains and the Chisos Basin. This is what we saw just before driving up into the basin but discovered sunshine and a beautiful day there and spent the rest of the day hiking.

I suppose that if there's anything that ties the three photos I've posted together it is that they reflect different moods, this the sunlight returning after a storm, the insets some storm clouds that brought ferocious thunder, lightning and rain to the area and a calm evening on the lake.

Taken from our back porch, these storm clouds brought a ferocious thunderstorm to our area. When the photo was taken the storm was moving to the northeast.

A lot of wheat and other grain is grown in Alberta but Canola is also a popular crop. This is a canola field under a summer sky.
